THE FRANCIACORTA

Franciacorta

The millenary roots of FRANCIACORTA account for its rich history and artistic testimonials and the area now includes 19 districts in the province of Brescia. It was probably given this evocative name in the Middle Ages and refers to the "francae curtes", a tax-free haven for the Benedictine Cluniac monks.

Its fascinating and gently rolling countryside, so rich in water sources and vegetation, and the mild climate have made FRANCIACORTA a renowned wine-making area since ancient times, as recorded in Latin classics from Plinius the Elder to Columella and Virgil.

Famous for its excellent wines, FRANCIACORTA is a source of wonder for its monuments: castles, convents, noble villas, churches, all lying in the midst of medieval boroughs, nestling in the thick greenery of its hills, the ideal settings for nature walks, bicycle and horse riding, and a taste of typical cuisine.
